Seconds stumble in last moments

The Senior Seconds had staged a dramatic comeback in their top of the table clash in the HD Morgan Memorial Trophy match at home to Wellington. Down 18-nil, climbing back to lead 28-18, but eventually succumbing 31-33. A knock-on in goal put paid to a match-winning try, and when the Axemen counter-attacked with time almost up, a lineout throw went awry, and the visitors scored. Game over.

But what a splendid game it was, always in doubt till the final whistle, notable for the way both teams came back when it appeared to be near hopeless, and for a 100% goalkicking performance from Eroni Ekevati. If these two teams meet in the final in two weeks, it'll be at Hataitai, all Eagles supporters are urged to get along. Remember, this is the Wellington club's top team, so they'll be there with bells on!

Seems as though some clubs are already calling it a season, with Paremata-Plimmerton defaulting to our Senior Thirds, likewise Upper Hutt to our Under 19s. Pity, those men deserved a workout on a chilly day, but the Tawa Titans did turn up to the Hutt Rec to lay our Robots low to the tune of 5-19. The Howlers however, journeyed to Ian Galloway Park to post 6 points to Wests 3. The Presidents were only a conversion behind Wellington, 5-7.

And our congratulations to Oriental-Rongotai, Jubilee Cup champions, 2011.
