The Eagles Prems are clear leaders of the Swindale Shield after their 27-22 win over Upper Hutt.  With the team behind 22-15, down to 14 players, stuck on their own line and with only 5 minutes left, the writing seemed to be on the wall.  The Eagles continued to believe though, holding on to the ball for entire last five minutes with Taleta Tupuola running in a match saving then match winning try's to complete a thrilling comeback win.

This weeks match report has been provided by ex Premier lock and loyal Eagles supporter, Kevin Melville.  Kev was sideline on Saturday and his entertaining read summarises all the on and off the field action.

It was a tough day results wise for the Eagles on Old Timers Day. The Premiers, Senior Twos and Colts all going down to Norths and OBU respectively.  The Senior Ones drew and it was left to the Senior Threes to bring up the first win of the day as they continued their unbeaten run.

The club as a whole has had an excellent start to the season. Saturday was a reminder that you only have to be a little below your best to end up on the wrong side of the ledger.

The on field disapointments were set aside on Saturday night as the club celebrated Alexis Time's 100 Premier games.  It was great that Alexis was able to do this with so many family and friends in attendance.

This weeks Premier match report comes from Eagles life member John Persico.  His honest appraisal follows.

The Eagles Prems picked up their second piece of silverware of the week beating MSP 19-14.  The Father Cleary Shield joins the McBain shield in an increasingly crowded trophy cabinet.  Elsewhere, there were wins for Senior 2s, Senior 3s and the Colts.

More good news over the weekend with the naming of Eagles midfield back Ope Peleseuma in the New Zealand Under 20s team for 2012 IRB Junior World Championship. The tournament this year is in South Africa from June 4 - June 22. Ope has made an outstanding return to rugby this season after 2011 was written off when he hurt his knee playing sevens for the Eagles. While Ope's talents on the field are there for all to see, his attitude, humility and work ethic off the field also stand out. Congratulations to Ope and his family!

It was also great to see a bumper crowd in the clubrooms on Saturday night as Taleta Tupuola and Parataiso Silafai-Lea'ana received their blazers for 40 Premier appearances.

Stephen Lynch has been kind enough to provide the Prems match report this week and his summary follows.

The stage had been set for the Stevens Ford Premiers to seal the clean sweep and retain the McBain Shield.  They did so in emphatic fashion, winning 43-21!  The Prems were at times rampant with their rolls royce backline running in six quality trys.
